This post represents an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic HCPC-registered Clinical Scientist with experience of haemato-oncology cytogenetics to join our dynamic high-throughput service. The successful applicant will join a team of fifteen dedicated scientists in the Cytogenetics Laboratory based at King’s College Hospital, which is an integral part of the Haematological Malignancy Diagnostic Centre (KHMDC). The Laboratory prides itself on offering an extensive testing repertoire, to aid the accurate diagnosis and prognosis of bone marrow disorders, currently utilising on-screen G-banded chromosome analysis, both manual and automated FISH analysis, and the provision of SNP array interpretation. The Laboratory is also active in R&D with a current project utilising nanopore sequencing. Having a strong track record of supporting training, the laboratory is forward-thinking, with a culture of continuous improvement, utilising technology to pursue both greater process efficiency and a paper-lite working environment. As part of a fully-integrated diagnostic service, the post holder will work closely with the clinical team and the morphology, immunophenotyping, histopathology and molecular teams within KHMDC. King’s HMDC is a Regional Centre for diagnostic services, covering most of Southeast England and with one of the largest myeloid/transplant practices in Europe. It is actively expanding with year-on-year sample number growth and new referral centres benefitting from the integrated reporting of the service. Already operating as a closely-integrated department, further co-location is in progress to realise the potential of fully integrated genomics. This will be followed by the King’s Health Partners (KHP) Haematology Institute, a world-leading centre which will bring together clinical service, research and education to deliver exceptional clinical care for our patients. There are a plethora of CPD activities offered on-site at King’s including case reviews, journal club, study days and pioneering talks from both internal and external speakers. This role provides the opportunity to contribute to advanced patient care, selecting appropriate investigations, analysing and composing complex clinical reports for a spectrum of referral indications. The post holder will help evolve the repertoire of testing available to our patients, and have the opportunity to discuss their work by presenting at local, national and international scientific meetings. Registration with the HCPC as a Clinical Scientist, excellent communication skills and a strong work ethic are essential for the role as the post holder will ensure the timeliness of reporting of complex analyses to enable rapid patient treatment decisions. Candidates not currently HCPC-registered but with evidence of appropriate experience to apply for HCPC registration will be considered, and if successful, would be employed at band 6 equivalent salary range until HCPC registration is achieved.
