The post may be underfilled as a Research Assistant position at a Grade 6 (£29,176 to £34,804 p.a. with an appropriate adjustment in the duties. This post would be suitable for a Secondment opportunity at either a grade 6 or grade 7. We are seeking a highly motivated Research Assistant/Associate to work on a new project, ‘Additional findings in the 100,000 Genomes Project: disease manifestation, impacts on recipients and healthcare utilisation’. The Genomics England 100,000 Genomes Project was a hybrid clinical/research programme which recruited around 80,000 participants through the NHS. The Project offered participants screening for disease-associated variants in a number of genes related to cancer susceptibility and familial hypercholesterolemia: ‘additional’ findings. The post offers an excellent opportunity to gain experience in this topical area. The successful applicant will have a good understanding of genetics, relevant postgraduate qualification (in Genetics/Genomic medicine/Genomic Sciences/social sciences/psychology), experience working with patients and the ability to relate to patients and discuss sensitive issues. S/he will also need excellent organisational skills and the experience and confidence to work effectively with a variety of clinical professionals and project managers to gain access to eligible patients and records, and to undertake quantitative and qualitative research, writing for publication and presenting findings in the UK and internationally. The postholder will be appointed as a Research Associate at Grade 7, or as a Research Assistant at grade 6, depending on qualification and experience.
